Marshall vs Akron 11/30/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Akron Zips and the Marshall Thundering Herd meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Cam Henderson Center. Akron is currently 3-3 on the year and coming off a loss to Nevada. Akron’s year began with a close win over South Dakota State and a blowout loss to Mississippi State. Akron was able to beat Morgan State and Western Kentucky in the next two games, then took a loss 73-58 to LSU. 

Akron made it consecutive losses with last Wednesday’s matchup with Nevada. The Zips were up by four at the break but were outscored 42-34 in the second half in a 62-58 loss. Tavari Johnson led the team on 21 points with four assists. 

Over on the Marshall side, they took a surprising loss to Queens NC in their opener this year. The Herd have hit a win streak since then, however. They’ve beaten Tennessee Tech, Miami-OH, Coppin State, Chicago State and Morehead State in their last five. 

Back on Saturday versus Morehead State, the Herd scored 37 points in the first half and 46 more after the break for an 83-59 blowout win. Andrew Taylor posted 19 points, and Micah Handlogten added a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. 

PICK: I’ll probably stay with Marshall here. The Herd have bounced back well from their opener loss. The offense is working well this year: Marshall has 82 or more points in all six games so far. The Herd hasn’t allowed more than 70 points in any of their five wins, either. That’s good news with Akron on the schedule. The Zips have hit 65 points or below in four of their last five games and just 58 in their last pair. If Marshall can find a good offensive rhythm Akron likely won’t be able to keep a cover pace.
