Creighton had a 1-3 stretch back in January and early February but outside of that they’ve been a very consistent team this year. The Bluejays are on a six-game win streak; they’ve taken out DePaul, Marquette and St. John’s in their last trio alone.
Matched up against St. John’s on Wednesday, the Bluejays were down 39-46 by halftime. Creighton surged on a 42-32 second-half run on the way to an 81-78 comeback win. Ryan Hawkins led the team with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Over on the Providence side, they’ve been great this season outside of a trio of losses to Virginia, Marquette and Villanova. Since that Wildcats loss, the Friars have notched wins over Butler and Xavier in the last pair of outings.
On Wednesday versus Xavier, the Friars kept the pace the whole way in a tense game. Providence needed three overtimes, but they would emerge with a 99-92 victory. Jared Bynum led the team on his 27 points with six boards.
The Friars are 1-5 ATS in their last six at home and 7-2 ATS in the last nine Saturday games. Providence is 2-5 ATS in their last seven as a favorite.
Meanwhile, the Bluejays are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 5-0 ATS in their last five overall. Creighton is 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Creighton here. The Bluejays are looking good over this six-game win streak. They’ve hit 71 or more points in each of their last five, and 80 or more in four of those games. Providence has been scoring well themselves with 71 or more in six straight, but three of those games have needed overtime for a decision. If the Bluejays get off to a good start here and can keep their offense churning, I can see them powering out a cover here. Should be an interesting game.
