Sacred Heart went 3-3 over their first six games this year, falling to Rutgers, UMass Lowell and NJIT along the way. The Pioneers hit a 2-2 run after that with losses to UMass Lowell and Fairfield after wins over Western New England and New Hampshire.
On Saturday versus Pittsburgh, Sacred Heart trailed 41-36 by halftime. The Pioneers gave up 50 points in the second half and limped to a 91-66 loss. Raheem Solomon led the team on 18 points with six rebounds.
Over on the Stony Brook side, they’ve taken losses to Florida, Rhode Island, Brown, FIU, Eastern Washington, Yale and Bryant this year. The team’s only wins so far have come over Miami-Hamilton and St Joseph’s (Long Island).
In Friday’s matchup versus Bryant, the Seawolves trailed by six going into the second half. Stony Brook put up a 44-31 deficit from there and lost 79-60. Tyler Stephenson-Moore led the team on 21 points with four rebounds.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Sacred Heart. There’s really not a lot to like here, though. The Pioneers are sitting on a three-game losing streak and they haven’t been scoring well lately. Sacred Heart has posted 66 or fewer points in four straight games. That said, the Pioneers shouldn’t have too much trouble setting the pace here. Stony Brook has a couple of good scoring outings lately but they’ve routinely finished below 60 points this season.
