The McNeese State Cowboys and the Tennessee Volunteers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Thompson-Boling Arena. McNeese State comes into this game at 2-5 overall. The Cowboys lost to TN-Martin in their last game. As for Tennessee, they’re 5-1 so far and took out Kansas last Friday. McNeese State beat Champion Christian in their opener this year, then lost to Tulane, Western Carolina and Lindenwood in their next trio. After a win over Lamar, the Cowboys fell to Baylor 89-60 in game six.

On Monday versus TN-Martin, the Cowboys trailed 39-32 by halftime. McNeese put up a valiant 51 points in the second but still lost 86-83. Trae English had 29 points, and Christian Shumate doubled on 17 points and 11 boards.

Over on the Tennessee side, they beat Tennessee Tech in their opener then fell 78-66 to Colorado in game two. The Volunteers bounced back with wins over Florida Gulf Coast, Butler and USC in the next three.

In Friday’s matchup against Kansas, Tennessee kept it going with another win. The Volunteers managed a 33-25 advantage in the first and a 31-25 run from there in a 64-50 win. Tops in scoring was Santiago Vescovi with 20 points and six boards.

PICK: I’ll probably stay with Tennessee. Probably not touching it due to the thick line, though. The Volunteers have been rolling along pretty well since their game two loss. Tennessee notched a nice performance versus Kansas, shooting 41.5 percent from the floor, 12-of-27 from 3-point range (44.4 percent) and out-rebounding the Jayhawks 45-27. Tennessee did have a whopping 24 turnover in the victory, however.

As for McNeese, they were drilled 89-60 the last time they faced a ranked team (Baylor) and considering the Cowboys have scored fewer than 70 points in five of their last six, this one should go similarly.
