The Delaware State Hornets and the Virginia Tech Hokies meet Monday in college basketball action from Cassell Coliseum. Delaware State managed to go just 2-25 overall last year, finishing at the bottom of the MEAC standings. As for Virginia Tech, they posted a 23-13 record overall and an ACC Tournament championship last season. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Delaware State had a miserable campaign in 2021-22, failing to improve on the ugly 3-16 record from a season before. The Hornets went 2-25 overall and 0-14 in the MEAC, which left the team in last place by six games in the conference standings.

The Hornets managed to start the year at 2-2 with wins over Cairn and Regent, but the team wouldn’t find any victories afterward. Delaware State hit a 23-game losing streak capped off with an MEAC Tournament loss to Norfolk State.

Over on the Virginia Tech side, they had a pretty solid season themselves last year despite not doing so well in the crowded ACC standings. The Hokies went 23-13 overall and 11-9 in the ACC games, landing in seventh place among the conference.

Virginia Tech caught fire in the ACC Tournament last year, rattling off wins over Clemson, Notre Dame, North Carolina and Duke on the way to the championship. The Hokies were stopped in their tracks by Texas in the First Rond of the national tourney, though.

Delaware State is 7-1 ATS in their last eight overall and 6-1 ATS in the last seven road games. The Hokies are 5-1 ATS in their last six Monday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven at home.

PICK: I suppose I’m staying with Virginia Tech, but the line is too thick to mess with. The Hokies have quite a few things to prove coming into this season. Despite the ACC Tournament win, Virginia Tech’s early exit in the NCAA tourney has people doubting their chances this year. All-ACC squad member Keve Aluma is gone, but hopes are high for Grant Basile and Darius Maddox to step in and contribute. All things considered, the Hokies will probably finish around the same spot in the ACC standings as they did last year. This should be an easy matchup to start things off.
