Delaware State vs Norfolk State 1/9/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Norfolk State Spartans and the Delaware State Hornets meet Monday in college basketball action from Memorial Hall Dover. Norfolk State is 11-5 on the year so far. The Spartans beat MD Eastern Shore in their last outing. As for Delaware State, they’re 1-13 after a loss to Howard on Saturday. Norfolk State started out 6-4 this year with losses to Baylor, UCLA, Houston and Old Dominion. The Spartans are 5-1 since then with wins over Bowling Green, Hampton, NC A&T, PSU Wilkes-Barre and MD Eastern Shore. 

In the matchup versus the Hawks on Saturday, the Spartans held a slim 24-23 edge by the break. Norfolk State hit a 33-23 second-half run and won it 57-46. Joe Bryant was the leading team scorer on 15 points with seven assists. 

Over on the Delaware State side, they won their second game of the year versus Immaculata, but they haven’t been able to get a victory since then. The Hornets have fallen to Drexel, Wagner, Penn State and Howard in their last quartet. 

On Saturday versus Howard, Delaware State was outscored 41-33 in the first half. The Hornets took a 43-31 deficit in the second and lost 84-64. O’Koye Parker was the top scorer on the team with 13 points in 24 minutes. 

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Norfolk State. The Spartans are on a nice 6-1 run over their last seven outings, taking a lone loss to Nevada in that stretch. Norfolk State has scored pretty well in that time with 66 or more points in six of the seven games. As for Delaware State, they haven’t hit 70 points in seven straight outings and will likely have trouble keeping pace here if Norfolk State gets going. On paper at least, it’s a Spartans blowout.
