Iowa State vs Texas Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 1/17/23

The Texas Longhorns and the Iowa State Cyclones meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Hilton Coliseum. Texas is 15-2 overall this year. The Longhorns beat Texas Tech in their last game. Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns lost just one of their first 13 games this year: an 85-78 result versus Illinois on December 6. Texas would lose again to Kansas State, but they’ve since beaten Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech. 

In the Texas Tech game on Saturday, Texas trailed 34-25 going into the second half. The Longhorns posted a 47-36 run from there and took the comeback win 72-70. Marcus Carr led the team with 20 points and six rebounds. 

Iowa State Cyclones 

Over on the Iowa State side, they lost just two of their first 15 games this year. One came November 27 versus UConn; the other was December 8 versus Iowa. The Cyclones lost their third game of the year on Saturday versus Kansas. 

Matched up against the Jayhawks on Saturday, the Cyclones were down 29-28 at the break. Iowa State didn’t end up getting any closer and fell 62-60. Gabe Kalscheur was the top scorer with 23 points and six rebounds.

I’m going to stay with Iowa State. We should have a pretty great matchup on our hands here, though. The Cyclones are coming off a solid road effort versus a talented Kansas team. Iowa State shot a tepid 38.3 percent in the loss but had a 37-32 rebounding advantage (13-6). As for Texas, they’ve had a couple of close calls in their last two games but the team is still scoring consistently. The Longhorns have hit 70 or more points in all but one game so far this year. This should be a fun game to watch, and ultimately I like Iowa State to bang out the cover/win.
