TX-Arlington stood at 5-7 after 12 games this year. The Mavericks beat Southwestern TX, Hardin-Simmons, Northern Kentucky, Howard Payne and San Francisco in that time. The Mavericks hit an 0-5 run over their next quintet, however.

In the Thursday matchup versus Grand Canyon, Texas-Arlington had a 30-28 lead at halftime. The Mavericks were drilled 52-18 in the second however, and lost 80-48. Kyron Gibson was the leading team scorer on 11 points and four assists.

Over on the New Mexico State side, they were 7-5 after 12 games with losses to UTEP, UC Irvine, Santa Clara, Saint Mary’s and Kent State. The Aggies then lost to Southern Utah, Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin and Cal Baptist in the next four.

Matched up against Seattle on Thursday, the Aggies were all tied up 24-24 at the half. New Mexico State was outscored 45-42 from there and lost a tough one 69-66. Both Issa Muhammad and DaJuan Gordon posted a team-high 11 points apiece.

PICK: I’m probably sticking with the Aggies. New Mexico State is fresh off a tough loss to a good Seattle team, and they’re currently riding a five-game losing streak. That said, the Aggies have mostly been competitive during that stretch and this should be a fairly comparable matchup for them. As for TX-Arlington, they had a bad second half against a talented Grand Canyon squad in their last game and they’ve now lost six in a row. I like this one to be competitive, and you could probably make a case either way. Ultimately I like New Mexico State a little better on the cover, though.
