The Boise State Broncos and the Northwestern Wildcats meet Thursday in NCAA Tournament First Round college basketball action from Golden 1 Center. Boise State is 24-9 overall this year. The Broncos lost to Utah State in Mountain West Tournament activity back on Friday. As for Northwestern, they’re 21-11 on the year after a Friday loss to Penn State in the Big Ten Tournament. Boise State Broncos

Boise State held a 23-8 record at the conclusion of the regular season. The Broncos closed out on a 5-2 stretch with wins over Wyoming, Colorado State, UNLV, New Mexico and San Diego State. In the Mountain West Tournament, Boise State beat UNLV 87-76 in the first game.

Last Friday versus Utah State, the Broncos held a 36-28 edge in the locker room. Boise State was outscored 44-26 from there however and lost 72-62. Both Naje Smith and Marcus Shaver scored 14 points apiece to lead the team.

Northwestern Wildcats

Over on the Wildcats’ side, they got through the regular season at 21-10 overall. Northwestern beat Wisconsin, Ohio State, Purdue, Indiana, Iowa and Rutgers over their final nine games, falling to Maryland, Illinois and Penn State otherwise.

In the Big Ten Tournament rematch versus Penn State on Friday, the Wildcats scored 26 points in the first half, 30 in the second and nine in overtime during a 67-65 loss. Leading the way was Boo Buie with 16 points, and Brooks Barnhizer doubled on 15 points and 11 rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I might try Boise State in this one. It’ll certainly be an interesting matchup regardless. The Broncos didn’t play well in the second half of the Utah State matchup, however they’ve been on a pretty good run despite their 2-3 record in the last five. Boise State is still scoring well with 66 or more points in eight of their last nine outings. As for Northwestern, they shot a rough 31.8 percent from the field in the Penn State game and were out-rebounded 41-37 overall. Northwestern has been scoring pretty modestly lately with 65 or fewer points in five straight games. If Boise State can find a good offensive tempo early I think they’ll be fine.

Andrew's Free Pick: Boise State Broncos -1.5
