The Lancers took a win over Abilene Christian in their tournament matchup on Tuesday. California Baptist managed a 13-12 run through their first 25 games this year. The Lancers finished off the regular season with a 3-3 record, beating WC Baptist, Seattle and UT Rio Grande Valley with losses otherwise to Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin and Southern Utah.
In the Abilene Christian tournament matchup on Tuesday, California Baptist went into the second half up 36-30. The Lancers hit a 33-32 stretch from there and won 69-62. Leading the way was Tre Armstrong on 23 points and four rebounds.
Sam Houston Bearkats
Over on the Sam Houston State side, they managed a 17-6 run through their first 23 outings of the season. The Bearkats closed out the year with wins over Abilene Christian (twice), TX-Arlington, Tarleton State, California Baptist, Southern Utah and Stephen F. Austin.
In the rematch versus Abilene Christian on Friday, the Bearkats were up 32-21 in the locker room. Sam Houston State hit a 40-33 stretch from there and won 72-54. Qua Grant led the way on 19 points and seven rebounds, while Javion May added 10 rebounds with five points.

I’ll probably lean toward Sam Houston State here. The Bearkats are on a nice run right now during this seven-game win streak. Sam Houston State hasn’t exactly been blowing up the scoreboard lately (they’ve got 66 or fewer points in five of their last six), but they’ve been getting it done defensively. The Bearkats have given up 62 or fewer points in each of the last seven outings, and fewer than 60 in each of the last five. These teams last met back on February 23 at Johnson Coliseum. That one ended up a 56-46 Sam Houston State win, and I don’t think this one will go a whole lot differently.
