Xavier Musketeers

The Musketeers managed a 23-8 record over the course of the regular season. Xavier should then beat DePaul 89-84 and Creighton 82-60 in the Big East Tournament before falling to Marquette 65-51. The Musketeers then beat Kennesaw State 72-67 in the First Round of the national tourney.

In the Sunday game versus Pittsburgh, the Musketeers were up 48-34 in the locker room. Xavier scored another 36 points in the second half and powered out the win 84-73. Jack Nunge was the top scorer on 18 points and Colby Jones doubled on 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Texas Longhorns

Over on the Texas side, they got through the regular season at 23-8 overall. The Longhorns did well in the Big 12 Tournament, beating Oklahoma State, TCU and Kansas along the way. In the First Round of the national tourney Texas managed an 81-61 win over Colgate.

Matched up against Penn State in their Second Round game on Saturday, the Longhorns took a 31-23 edge into the second half. Texas was outscored 43-40 from there but held on for the win 71-66. Dylan Disu led the way with a double-double on 28 points and 10 rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably lean toward Texas in this one. The Longhorns did a solid job against a good Penn State team in their last matchup, shooting 50.8 percent from the field with 37 rebounds and just five turnovers. Texas was ice cold from 3-point range however, making just one of their 13 tries. Still, there’s not much to complain about when it comes to the Longhorns right now. As for Xavier, they’re looking pretty good right now themselves. The Musketeers had six different players with double-digit points in the Pittsburgh game, propelled by 47.6 percent shooting from the field, 22 assists and just eight turnovers. Xavier has 72 or more points in seven of their last eight outings, so this one could very well end up a high total. I don’t think the Musketeers will quite keep the pace with Texas, however.
