Washington vs Stanford 1/12/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Stanford Cardinal and the Washington Huskies meet Thursday in college basketball action from Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Stanford enters this one at 5-10 overall. The Cardinal lost to California in their last game. As for Washington, they’re currently 9-8 on the season following a loss to Arizona State on Sunday. Stanford went 4-6 over their first 10 games this year, beating Pacific, Cal Poly, Florida State and Green Bay in that time. The Cardinal have since gone 1-4 with losses to Texas, Colorado, Utah and California. 

Last Friday versus California, Stanford took a 45-37 deficit into the break. The Cardinal were outscored 47-33 from there and lost 92-70. Michael Jones led the team 14 points, and Spencer Jones added 13 points with five boards. 

Over on the Washington side, they were 9-3 after 12 games this year with losses to only Cal Baptist, Oregon State and Gonzaga. The Huskies have since lost to Auburn, USC, UCLA, Arizona and Arizona State in succession. 

Back on Sunday versus Arizona State, the Huskies were down by just two points going into the second half. Washington was outscored 45-39 from there and lost 73-65. Keion Brooks doubled on 15 points with 10 rebounds, and Noah Williams added 15 points of his own. 

PICK: I’ll probably stay with Washington in this one. It’ll be an interesting matchup, though. The Huskies have gone through a gauntlet of talented squads over their last five games, so the results haven’t been good during this losing streak. Washington hasn’t eclipsed 67 points in any of those matchups, however the team was scoring pretty well in the first part of the season versus more comparable teams. This matchup should be in Washington’s wheelhouse; I don’t think Stanford will be able to keep the lead if the Huskies get going.
