Abilene Christian vs Chicago State 2/2/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Chicago State Cougars and the Abilene Christian Wildcats meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Teague Special Events Center. Chicago State is 6-15 on the year so far. The Cougars lost to Dixie State in their last game. As for Abilene Christian, they’re 14-7 and coming off a win over Lamar. Chicago State won consecutive games to start the year, but they haven’t been able to replicate that feat since. The Cougars are just 1-3 over their last four games. They’ve got a win over Lamar with losses to UTRGV, Utah Valley and Dixie State in that time. 

In the Saturday game versus Dixie State, Chicago State was outscored 43-31 in the first half and couldn’t catch up in an eventual 79-65 loss. Leading scorer Coreyoun Rushin put up 17 points with seven boards. Jahsean Corbett added 16 points as well. 

Over on the Abilene Christian side, they hit a nice 11-2 run to kick off the year. The Wildcats posted a five-game losing streak in early January, but they’ve picked it up over the last three games with wins over Cal Baptist, UTRGV and Lamar. 

Matched up against Lamar on Saturday, the Wildcats were down by one point heading into the break. Abilene Christian went on a 49-45 run from there on the way to an 85-82 victory. Leading scorer Mahki Morris put up 17 points and two rebounds in the win. 

Abilene Christian is 24-8 ATS in their last 32 at home and 1-7 ATS in their last eight overall. The Wildcats are 6-1 ATS in the last seven Wednesday games. 

Meanwhile, the Cougars are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. The under is 4-1 in Abilene Christian’s last five overall. 

PICK: I’m going to take a wild stab on Chicago State. Sure, the odds are stacked against the Cougars in this one, but they might be able to power out a cover. Abilene Christian has played it very tight over the last two games, winning both by a combined five points. Neither team (UTRGV and Lamar) has a better record than Chicago State, so there’s no reason to think the Cougars can’t compete here—relatively speaking. If Chicago State can get their offense going I think they’ve got a decent cover shot.
