Eastern Michigan was 3-9 through 12 games this year, beating only Wayne State (MI), FIU and Detroit. The Eagles are 1-3 since then with losses to South Carolina, Bowling Green and Western Michigan alongside a win over Central Michigan.
Back on Tuesday versus Western Michigan, the Eagles trailed by eight points going into the second half. Easter Michigan made a run with a 51-49 second-half advantage but still lost 85-79. Emoni Bates led the team on 23 points.
Over on the Akron side, they were 7-5 after 12 games with losses to Mississippi State, Nevada, LSU, Marshall and Bradley. The Zips have since gone 3-1 with wins over Concord, Northern Illinois and Bowling Green.
In the Bowling Green game on Tuesday, the Zips were tied 36-36 by the break. Akron outscored the Falcons 38-34 from there and won 74-70. Enrique Freeman led the way on a double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Akron here. Probably not touching this one, though. The Zips have had a couple of dud outings on the scoreboard lately, however they’re playing pretty well overall. Akron has hit 74 or more points in three of their last four games and shouldn’t have too many issues putting up points in this one. As for Eastern Michigan, they’ve hit 65 or fewer points in three of the last four games. So long as Akron plays to their capabilities in this one I don’t think the Eagles will keep up.
