The Longwood Lancers and Alabama Crimson Tide meet Monday in college basketball action at the Coleman Coliseum. The Longwood Lancers are coming off a 26-win season. The Alabama Crimson Tide are coming off a 19-win season.

The Longwood Lancers are fresh off their best season in school history that included a trip to the First Round. Isaiah Wilkins returns after averaging 12.7 points and 6.2 rebounds, while DeShaun Wade averaged 11.8 points and 2.9 rebounds. Zac Watson played in more than 600 minutes last season and Leslie Nkereuwem averaged 4.3 rebounds. The Longwood Lancers return 4 of their top-5 scorers from a team that made the NCAA Tournament. Yes, Longwood says goodbye to Justin Hill, its best player, but this is a team that has to feel it should be favored to win the Big South and return to the big dance.

The Alabama Crimson Tide enters the fourth season under coach Nate Oats. Jahvon Quinerly returns after averaging 13.8 points and 3 rebounds, while Noah Gurley averaged 6.8 points and 3.5 rebounds. Darius Miles played in more than 500 minutes last season and Charles Bediako averaged 4.3 rebounds. The Alabama Crimson Tide lost a lot of players from last season, but snags two 5-star recruits in Brandon Miller and Jaden Bradley. Alabama also lands Ohio transfer Mark Sears, who was a first-team All-MAC selection last year. Alabama is a serious threat in the SEC this season and should reach the big dance for a third straight year.

The Lancers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Crimson Tide are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 home games and 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The over is 6-2 in Lancers last 8 overall. The over is 20-8 in Crimson Tide last 28 overall.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are the more talented, deeper team and should be favored here by a decent amount. However, we should not overlook a Longwood Lancers team that returns the majority of last year’s roster and made the big dance. I’m not saying Longwood is going to win this game, but it certainly won’t be intimated and should enter it feeling good about competing. Longwood is a NCAA Tournament team. Give me the points.
