The Miami Hurricanes and the Alabama Crimson Tide meet Sunday in college basketball action from HP Field House. Miami enters this one at 4-2 so far. The Hurricanes are coming off a win over North Texas. As for Alabama, they’re 5-1 this year and fresh off a win over Drake. Miami started out the year on a 3-1 run, falling to UCF while otherwise taking out Canisius, Florida Atlantic and Florida A&M. The Hurricanes’ worst loss so far came in game five, a 76-60 defeat at the hands of Dayton.
Miami got back into the win column on Friday versus North Texas. The Hurricanes were down 40-28 at halftime but surged from there on a 41-23 run for a 69-63 win. Isaiah Wong led the way on 21 points, and Kameron McGusty had 18 points with 12 boards.
Over on the Alabama side, their year started out at 4-0 on a nice opening run. In that stretch the Tide took out Louisiana Tech, South Dakota State, South Alabama and Oakland. Game five was a loss for Alabama, 72-68 to Iona.
The Tide similarly bounced back in their sixth game of the year, scoring 47 points in the second half on the way to an 80-71 win over Drake. Jahvon Quinerly topped the team with 18 points and four assists; Juwan Gary doubled up on 14 points and 10 boards.
The Tide are 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine Sunday games. The over is 7-0 in Alabama’s last seven Sunday games.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are 4-1 ATS in the last five neutral-site games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. The over is 4-1 in Miami’s last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Alabama in this one. The Tide started a bit slow versus Drake in their last game but ultimately shot a nice 54.4 percent from the field with 35 rebounds and 11 team assists. Alabama shot just 13-of-22 from the line (59.1 percent) with 17 turnovers, however.
As for Miami, they had a scare in the first half of the North Texas game but do get some credit for coming back. The Hurricanes were out-rebounded 26-24 in that game and had just two offensive rebounds. It’s going to take a big effort to topple Alabama, and I don’t think Miami will get there.
