South Alabama Jaguars
The Jaguars didn’t start out the season very well in their opener. Matched up against the University of Mobile at Mitchell Center last Monday, South Alabama was outscored 47-23 in the first half. The Jaguars got better from there on 51 points but ended up losing 83-74. Judah Brown led the team on 21 points and three rebounds in the defeat.
Game two against Buffalo went much better for the Jaguars. After a 33-29 halftime edge, South Alabama scored another 37 points in a 70-56 victory. Marcus Millender topped the team this time with 15 points, four rebounds and four assists. Thomas Howell pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds and added six points of his own.
Alabama Crimson Tide
Over on the Alabama side, they haven’t had many difficulties though two games so far. The Tide took on Morehead State in their opener, scoring 55 points in the first half and 50 more from there in a 105-73 blowout win. Alabama shot a nice 56.1 percent from the field in that one, collecting 40 rebounds and 16 assists along the way.
The Tide recorded another sizable win over Indiana State back on Friday. This time Alabama was up 48-37 by the break and rolled to the win 102-80. ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll stick with Alabama. The Tide haven’t faced much resistance through two games thus far, and if they play to their capabilities Alabama won’t have any difficulty here either. In their last matchup versus the Sycamores, Alabama posted 51.6 percent shooting from the field and a great 56.5 percent (13-of-23) from 3-point range alongside a 40-25 rebounding edge. It was a pretty well-rounded and dominant victory any way you look at it.
As for South Alabama, they recovered well after their opener loss, shooting 57.1 percent from the field with 36 rebounds in the win over Buffalo. Alabama is outside of the Jaguars’ wheelhouse however, and they’re going to have a tough time keeping up with the Tide for long. Alabama should dominate.
