Alcorn State vs Prairie View A&M 1/17/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Prairie View A&M Panthers and the Alcorn State Braves meet Monday in college basketball action from Davey Whitney Complex. Prairie View is just 1-12 on the year so far. The Panthers lost to Jackson State in their last game. As for Alcorn State, they’re 5-11 and fresh off a win over Texas Southern. Prairie View A&M got off to a rough start this year. The Panthers hit an 0-11 stretch out of the gate and even had to forfeit a couple of matchups in early January. After their first win over AR-Pine Bluff, the Panthers lost again to Jackson State on Saturday. 

Matched up against Jackson State, the Panthers held a 37-35 edge at the break. Prairie View lost it from there on a 40-27 deficit for the 75-64 loss. Leading scorers Jawaun Daniels and Jeremiah Gambrell put up 16 points apiece with a combined 10 boards. 

Over on the Alcorn State side, they had a similarly rough start at 1-11 this year with only a November 28 win over Milwaukee to show for it. Since then however, it’s been four straight wins over Jackson State, Alabama A&M, Alabama State and Texas Southern. 

In the Texas Southern game over the weekend, the Braves posted a nice 46-32 edge at halftime. The Braves had to hang on during a wild second half but ended up with a 73-72 win for their troubles. Justin Thomas led the team on 26 points and eight boards. 

Alcorn State is 4-1 ATS in their last five Monday games and 17-5-1 ATS in their last 23 overall. The under is 6-1 in the Braves’ last seven Monday games. 

Meanwhile, the Panthers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Monday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss. Prairie View is 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. 

PICK: I’m sticking with Alcorn State. Something has clicked with the Braves over their last four games. They’ve hit 70 points or more in three of those and held opponents to 60 or fewer points in two of them. It’s a step in the right direction and a nice confidence-builder. 

As for Prairie View, they’ve hit some decent points totals here and there this season and may have some more scoring opportunities here. Ultimately I think the Braves will pull off the cover and keep their streak going, though.
