The Siena Saints and the American Eagles meet in college basketball action from the Bender Arena on Thursday afternoon.
The Siena Saints will look to build on their 76-70 win over St. Bonaventure last time out. Javian McCollum leads the Saints in scoring and assists with 17.3 PPG and 4.3 APG while Jackson Stormo has 12.9 PPG and 6.3 RPG this season. Andrew Platek also has 10.9 PPG to cap off the trio of double-digit scorers for Siena while Jared Billups has a team-high 6.5 RPG to lead the Saints in rebounding so far this season. As a team, Siena is averaging 71.5 PPG on 45.4% shooting from the field, 38.6% from three and 76.1% from the foul line this season.
The American Eagles will try to build on a 69-61 win over VMI in their last game. Matt Rogers leads American in scoring and rebounding with 13.7 PPG and 5.8 RPG while Johnny O’Neil has 11.6 PPG and 5.8 RPG and Geoff Sprouse has 11 PPG with 2.6 APG to finish off the group of double-digit scorers for American up to this point in the season. Elijah Stephens has a team-high 4.4 APG to lead the Eagles in assists this season. As a team, American is averaging 68.9 PPG on 48.9% shooting from the field, 37.7% from three and 72.1% from the foul line this season.
Siena is 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games following a win and 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 road games against a team with a winning home record while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games following an ATS win. American is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS loss while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 Thursday games.
I get the case to be made for the Saints here as they already have wins over Seton Hall and Florida State this season, and these two teams are very similar in terms of efficiency numbers. The thing is though that American shoots far better from inside the arc and those extra couple of makes over the course of a 40-minute game could be the difference. Add in American being at home, and I think you have to side with the Eagles here.
