LA-Monroe started out the year on a 2-4 run with wins over Champion Christian and Northwest State. The Warhawks hit a win streak versus Centenary (LA), NW State, LA College, Stephen F. Austin, Southern Miss and Lamar before falling to Coastal Carolina.
In the Thursday game versus Coastal Carolina, the Warhawks gave up 45 points in the first half and 49 more from there in a 94-64 blowout loss. Leading scorer Nika Metskhvarishvili put up 20 points with four rebounds.
Over on the App State side, they managed to go 5-5 over their first 10 games. Since then it’s been a win over Erskine and three consecutive losses to Duke, North Carolina and Louisiana for the Mountaineers.
In Thursday’s game versus Louisiana, Appalachian State was outscored by a whopping 43-19 deficit during the first half and limped to a 71-55 loss. Adrian Delph led the team with his 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
App State is 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and 0-3-1 ATS in their last four overall. The under is 4-1 in the Mountaineers’ last five Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Warhawks are 4-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight after a straight-up loss. LA-Monroe is 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games.
PICK: I’m going with LA-Monroe. Both these teams are in need of bounce-back efforts after sub-par Thursday outings, though. The Warhawks had been on a nice six-game run with 74 or more points scored in each before their blowout loss. I like UL Monroe to find their groove again here. As for App State, they haven’t been above 69 points in five straight games. If the Warhawks get going I don’t think the Mountaineers will be able to keep the pace up.
