The Jacksonville State Gamecocks and the Little Rock Trojans meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Jack Stephens Center. Jacksonville State is 5-6 so far this year and coming off a loss to Alabama. As for Little Rock, they’re 5-6 on the season as well. The Trojans beat Philander Smith in their last game. Jacksonville State managed to go 3-3 over their first six games this year with wins over Alabama A&M, Drexel and Elon. It’s been a 2-3 run since then for the Gamecocks, featuring losses to South Alabama, VCU and Alabama mixed in.
In the Alabama game on Saturday, the Gamecocks managed to hang around for most of the game but were eventually beaten 65-59 after a second-half Tide run. Jacksonville State’s lead scorer was Darian Adams on 18 points and seven rebounds.
Over on the Little Rock side, they won four of their first six games over Southern IL, Champion Christian, AR Baptist and Northern Illinois. After losses to Tulsa, Colorado State, Arkansas and Missouri State the Trojans got a W over Philander Smith back on December 11.
Matched up against Philander Smith, Little Rock turned a slim two-point halftime edge into a 60-51 victory with 28 second-half points. Isaiah Palermo put up 18 points with nine boards, and DJ Smith doubled up on 13 points and 10 rebounds.
The Trojans are 9-24-1 ATS in their last 34 overall and the under is 19-6-1 in their last 26 overall. The under is 12-0 in Little Rock’s last 12 at home.
Meanwhile, the Gamecocks are 7-2 ATS in their last nine Tuesday games and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games. Jacksonville State is 15-5 ATS in their last 20 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks put up a valiant effort against a tough Alabama team in their last outing but just didn’t have the gas to keep up. Jacksonville State shot a tepid 36.1 percent in that one, however the team kept up on the boards with a slim 41-38 deficit and just nine turnovers.
As for Little Rock, they got a much-needed win in their last outing but the team just hasn’t been scoring well lately. The Trojans have been at 63 or more points in four of their last five outings. If the Gamecocks can find a good scoring rhythm here I don’t think they’ll have issues covering.
