The Nevada Wolf Pack and the Arizona State Sun Devils meet Wednesday in NCAA Tournament First Four college basketball action from UD Arena. Nevada is 22-10 overall this year. The Wolf Pack lost to San Jose State in their last game. As for Arizona State, they’re 22-12 on the season following a loss to Arizona in the Pac-12 Tournament last Friday. Nevada Wolf Pack

The Wolf Pack got through the regular season with a decent 22-9 record overall. Nevada closed out the year on a 4-3 run, beating New Mexico, Fresno State, San Jose STate and Wyoming with losses otherwise to Utah State, Wyoming and UNLV.

In the Mountain West Tournament game versus San Jose State last Thursday, the Wolf Pack fought back from a 31-26 first-half deficit to force overtime but still lost 81-77. Leading the team in scoring was Jarod Lucas with 28 points and four rebounds.

Arizona State Sun Devils

Over on the Arizona State side, they were 20-11 by season’s end but lost to UCLA and USC in consecutive games to finish the year. The Sun Devils had a good tournament start, beating Oregon State 63-57 and USC 77-72 in their first pair.

Matched up against Arizona on Friday, the Sun Devils hit a 35-28 first-half deficit. Arizona State was outscored 43-31 from there and lost 78-59. Both Frankie Collins and Jamiya Neal scored 11 points apiece, combining for six assists as well.

I’m going to stay with Nevada here. The Wolf Pack took a tough loss to San Jose State in their last outing, and they’ve now lost three consecutive games. That said, Nevada has still been scoring pretty well in that time with 67 or more points in all three. As for Arizona State, they put up a solid conference tournament showing but couldn’t handle Arizona in their last matchup. The Sun Devils have scored 65 or fewer points in four of their last five games, so it’ll be important for them to get off to a good start. I like a close, competitive matchup here with Nevada ultimately taking it. Should be a fun one to watch.
