Arkansas State vs LA-Monroe 12/31/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks and the Arkansas State Red Wolves meet Saturday in college basketball action from ASU Convocation Center. LA-Monroe is fresh off a Thursday game versus Texas State. The Warhawks ended up powering out a four-point victory. As for Arkansas State, they played Old Dominion in their Thursday game. In that one the Red Wolves won a close matchup by three points. LA-Monroe started out the year at 2-4 over their first six games, beating only DCC and Central Baptist. The Warhawks hit a 2-5 run after that with losses to Loyola-MD, Tulane, Northwestern State, Sam Houston and Jacksonville. 

In the Texas State game on Thursday, the Warhawks managed a 32-25 advantage in the first half. LA-Monroe had to scramble in the second but came away with the 57-53 win. Victor Bafutto finished with a double-double on 11 points and 10 boards. 

Over on the Arkansas State side, they hit a 3-3 run over their first six games, falling to LSU, UC Davis and Prairie View. The Red Wolves managed to go 5-2 in their next seven, falling to only Air Force and Central Arkansas during that stretch. 

Matched up against Old Dominion on Thursday, Arkansas State was up 29-16 going into the second half. ODU made a game of it but the Red Wolves emerged victorious 60-57. Omar El-Sheikh doubled on 18 points and 13 rebounds. 

PICK: I might try Arkansas State here. The Red Wolves will need to get the offense going early, however. Arkansas State has scored 68 or more points in three of their last four games, however they’ve also scored 67 or fewer in four of the last seven. LA-Monroe will have a good shot if they can keep the Red Wolves below 65 points or so, but I don’t think the Warhawks will quite get there. It should be an interesting and competitive matchup at least.
