Troy Trojans
Troy started out the year on an up-and-down 12-8 run through their first 20 games. The Trojans are 4-3 since then, beating LA-Monroe, Texas State, South Alabama and Louisiana. The losses came to Louisiana, South Alabama and Southern Miss in that time.
In the Louisiana rematch back on Saturday, the Trojans went into halftime trailing 35-30. Troy stormed back with a 50-30 run and took the comeback win 80-65. Leading scorer Zay Williams doubled on 26 points s 10 rebounds.
Arkansas State Red Wolves
Over on the Red Wolves’ side, they were a sketchy 9-11 at the 20-game mark this year. In the last seven Arkansas State is just 1-6. The losses during that stretch were to Marshall, Southern Miss, App State, South Alabama, Texas State and Georgia Southern.
Matched up against Georgia Southern, the Red Wolves were down 30-24 going into the second half. Arkansas State didn’t get any closer on a 38-29 second-half run and lost 68-53. Terrance Ford put up 13 options with six rebounds in the victory.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’m leaning toward Troy. Probably not touching this one, though. The Trojans are enjoying a three-game win streak right now, but they’ve been pretty sketchy on the scoreboard lately. Troy has been at 65 points or fewer in four of their last six outings. When these teams last met up back on January 7 at Trojan Arena, Troy managed a 66-54 victory with a 35-27 run in the second half. With the change in venue this time Arkansas State will likely put up more of a fight, but I still like Troy a little better cover-wise.
