Auburn vs Mississippi State 1/14/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Auburn Tigers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Auburn Arena. Mississippi State is 12-4 overall this year. The Bulldogs lost to Georgia on Wednesday in their last game. As for Auburn, they’re 13-3 overall and coming off a win over Ole Miss. Mississippi State kicked off the year with 11 straight wins before falling to Drake on December 20. The Bulldogs have since gone 1-3 with losses to Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia alongside a win over Ole Miss. 

In the Georgia game on Wednesday, the Bulldogs were down 20-19 by halftime. Mississippi State didn’t end up getting any closer on a 38-31 second-half deficit in a 58-50 loss. Shakeel Moore was the top scorer on 15 points. 

Over on the Auburn side, they were 10-2 after 12 games with losses to Memphis and USC. The Tigers are currently on a 3-1 run over the last four with wins over Florida, Arkansas and Ole Miss alongside a loss to Georgia. 

Back on Tuesday versus Ole Miss, Auburn took a 35-34 deficit into the second half. The Tigers rallied on a 48-38 run from there and won it 82-73. Wendell Green led the team on 23 points and Johni Broome doubled on 19 points and 11 rebounds. 

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Auburn in this one. It should be an interesting matchup, though. The Tigers started out slow against Ole Miss in their last game but they were able to rally late for their fourth win in five games. Auburn has scored 71 or more points in seven of their last nine games and they should be in pretty good shape if they can hit that threshold here. As for Mississippi State, they’ve been pretty listless on the scoreboard amid a tough run of games lately. The Bulldogs have 64 or fewer points in three straight games, and 53 or fewer in two of those. If Mississippi State doesn’t get off to a good start in this one, they’ll be left behind early.
