The Tennessee State Tigers and the Austin Peay Governors meet Saturday in college basketball action from Dunn Center. Tennessee State is fresh off a matchup versus Murray State on Thursday. In that one the Tigers lost by 11 points. As for Austin Peay, they played Southeast Missouri State in their Thursday game. The Governors would end up posting an eight-point victory. Tennessee State managed a 6-8 run over their first 14 games this year, and things have been choppy the whole way. Heading into Thursday’s matchup the Tigers were on a 2-2 run with losses to Eastern Illinois and Belmont between wins over SIUE and UT Martin.
On Thursday in the Murray State game, the Tigers had a 36-29 edge by halftime. Tennessee State was outscored 26-44 in the second during a 73-62 loss, however. Carlos Marshall led the team with his 13 points and four rebounds.
Over on the Austin Peay side, they began the year on a 4-9 run, then hit a 3-2 stretch in January with wins over UT Martin, Tennessee Tech and SIUE. After that came more losses to Murray State, Morehead State and Belmont.
In the Thursday matchup versus Southeast Missouri State, the Governors scored 41 points in the first half and 33 more in the second during a 74-66 victory. Tariq Silver posted 18 points, and Carlos Paez added 10 points in 20 minutes of work.

PICK: I’m going to take a shot on Tennessee State but probably not going near this one. Neither one of these teams has been all that successful lately. That said, the last time these two squads met up back on January 22, the Tigers secured a 65-61 win at home. Tennessee State has failed to score 70 points in five of six games since then, but they’ve also taken on some tough teams in that time. This matchup could go a lot of different ways so it’s probably not one to mess with, but Tennessee State makes more sense to me on a cover.
