Tennessee Tech hasn’t been able to find much success so far this year. The Golden Eagles had a six-game losing streak going into February before a pair of wins over Eastern Illinois. That was followed up with another loss to SIU Edwardsville.
On Thursday versus Southeast Missouri State, Tennessee Tech posted a 44-40 run in the first half and held on for the solid 98-94 victory. Jr. Clay led the way on 19 points, and Kenny White added 16 points with three rebounds.
Over on the Austin Peay side, their year began at 7-11 through 18 games. The Governors lost to Murray State, Morehead State and Belmont to start out February, then got wins over Southeast Missouri State, Tennessee State and Eastern Illinois.
Matched up against Murray State in the Thursday game, the Governors didn’t stand much chance after a 23-49 first-half deficit. Austin Peay would limp to a 91-56 defeat. Elijah Hutchins-Everett led the team scoring on 12 points and four boards.
The Governors are 1-7 ATS in their last eight Saturday games and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 after an ATS loss. The under is 25-6-1 in Austin Peay’s last 32 after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 2-5 ATS in their last seven Saturday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. The over is 5-1 in Tennessee Tech’s last six overall.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Austin Peay. Sure, there was no way the Governors were going to beat Murray State Thursday. That said, Austin Peay has posted some pretty decent showings against comparable teams lately. One of those was a 58-55 road victory over Tennessee Tech the last time these teams met back on January 29. The Governors aren’t the highest-scoring team in the world right now, but a showing in the mid-60s or so could very well do it here.
