Central Michigan stumbled to a 2-13 start over their first 15 games this year, losing to Eastern Illinois and Kent State. After wins over Northern Illinois, Bowling Green and Western Michigan, the Chippewas lost again to Buffalo.
Matched up against Buffalo, the Chippewas were outscored 27-34 in the first half and 27-40 in the second during a 74-54 defeat. Central Michigan’s top scorer was Ralp Bissainthe with 19 points, four steals and four rebounds in the loss.
Over on the Ball State side, they hit a sketchy 7-10 run to open the season but have been better lately. The Cardinals are 4-1 in their last five games with wins over Miami OH, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and Toledo.
In the Toledo game, the Cardinals posted 51 points in the first half and 42 more from there in a 93-83 victory. Leading scorer Payton Sparks doubled up with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Luke Bumbalough added 17 points as well.
The Cardinals are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 8-0 ATS in their last eight at home. The over is 3-0-1 in Ball State’s last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Chippewas are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 5-12-1 ATS in their last 18 Tuesday games. The under is 5-0 in Central Michigan’s last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with Ball State here. The Cardinals have gotten their offense going lately with 68 or more points in eight of their last nine games. During this 4-1 run, Ball State has hit 74 or more in four of five. We should see another good total here.
As for Central Michigan, they’ve scored reasonably well lately overall but I don’t see them keeping up for too long. Should be the Cardinals’ cover to take.
