FGCU had a highly sketchy 3-6 run back in January, but other than that they’ve been a pretty competitive team this season. Since their last loss to North Florida, the Eagles have taken out Liberty, Jacksonville and North Alabama in succession.
On Tuesday in the North Alabama game, the Eagles managed a 45-37 lead by the break. Florida Gulf Coast scored 36 more points from there in an 81-72 victory. Tavian Dunn-Martin led the team with his 26 points and three assists.
Over on the Bellarmine side, they started out at 0-5 this year but they’ve only lost consecutive outings once since then. The Knights are just 1-2 in the last trio, though; they’ve got a win over Lipscomb between losses to Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky in that time.
Matched up against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, the Knights posted just 22 points in the first half. Bellarmine got better on 36 points from there but still lost 72-58. Garrett Tipton led the team with 14 points and two boards off the bench.
The Knights are 0-5 ATS in their last five at home and 2-5-1 ATS in the last eight overall. The over is 5-2 in Bellarmine’s las seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 2-7 ATS in the last nine road games and 13-4 ATS in the last 17 Thursday games. FGCU is 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight overall.
PICK: I’m probably going to stay with Florida Gulf Coast. The Eagles have found a good rhythm over this 8-1 stretch. They’ve scored 76 or more points in each of their wins along the way. The last time these teams saw each other however, FGCU took a 74-63 defeat back on January 29. Bellarmine has been a little shaky in their losses lately, and I think Florida Gulf Coast can bang out a cover if they get off to a quick start. Should be a fun matchup regardless.
