Fresno State Bulldogs

The Bulldogs got off to a reasonable 6-4 start this year but quickly fell below .500 and stayed there. Fresno State has maintained a 3-3 stretch over the last six games however, beating Air Force (twice) and San Jose State mixed with losses to UNLV (twice) and Colorado State in that time.

Back on Wednesday versus UNLV, Fresno State carried a 32-29 edge into the second half. The Bulldogs were outscored 38-33 from there however and lost a tough one 67-65 in the end. Top scorer Leo Colimerio came off the bench to score 30 points with four rebounds in 37 minutes during the defeat.

Boise State Broncos

Over on the Boise State side, they managed a 14-6 run over their first 20 games with losses to Clemson, Virginia Tech, Butler, Washington State, UNLV and Utah State. The Broncos would then beat New Mexico and Air Force before losses to Colorado State and Utah State in the next pair.

In their latest outing last weekend versus Utah State, Boise State limped to a 41-30 deficit in the first half. The Broncos didn’t get any closer on a 38-31 second half and fell 80-61. Tyson Degenhart was the leading scorer on the team in the loss with 17 points and eight boards in 36 minutes.

I’ll stick with Boise State. The Broncos couldn’t handle a very good Utah State team in their latest road loss, shooting a rough 35.6 percent while giving up 51.8 parent on the other side. Boise State rebounded pretty well though (36) and didn’t go crazy with turnovers (10). Still, the Broncos are struggling over the last pair with just 123 combined points in two road losses.

Boise State managed a road victory 72-68 the last time these teams met up back on January 23. The Broncos faded a bit in the second half and gave up 52.8 percent shooting overall but were once again strong on the boards with a 35-25 rebounding edge (14-5 offensive).
