Pittsburgh started out the year on a 5-9 run, bagging wins over UNC Wilmington, Towson, Colgate, St. John’s and Jacksonville. It’s been a 3-3 stretch since then for the Panthers. They’ve beaten Boston College, Louisville and Syracuse in that time.
On Tuesday versus Syracuse, the Panthers were down by four points at the break. Pittsburgh surged on a 40-25 run from there to bag the 64-53 win. Jamaius Burton was the lead scorer on 21 points, and Mouhamadou Gueye doubled on 19 points and 10 boards.
Over on the Boston College side, they started out the year at a decent 6-3 through nine games. The Eagles have gone just 2-8 since then, however. Since their last win over Virginia Tech, Boston College has lost to Wake Forest and North Carolina.
Matched up against the Tar Heels on Wednesday, the Eagles went into halftime down 33-31. Boston College posted a 25-16 deficit from there in a rough 58-47 loss. The only player in double-figures was Quinten Post with 10 points and seven boards.
The Eagles are 7-19 ATS in their last 26 after an ATS win and 1-5 ATS in the last six Sunday games. The over is 6-2 in Boston College’s last eight overall.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are 1-4 ATS in their last five Sunday games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight after a straight-up win. The under is 5-0 in Pitt’s last five Sunday games.
PICK: I’m going to take Pittsburgh here. Probably not going near it, though; this one looks like it’ll be close. The last time these teams met up back on January 8, Pittsburgh secured a 69-67 victory. The Panthers shot 44.4 percent from the field with 38 rebounds; the Eagles hit 38.6 percent of their shots with 27 rebounds. It was tight the whole way.
Considering Boston College has been at 57 points or fewer in three of their last four games, I’m not convinced they’ll be able to generate enough offense to get the job done here. Pittsburgh hasn’t exactly been lighting it up on the scoreboard themselves lately, but I think they’re still the better cover option.
