The Navy Midshipmen and the Boston University Terriers meet Thursday in Patriot League Tournament college basketball action from Case Gym. Here’s a Boston Univ. vs Navy Prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Boston Univ. vs Navy pick.

Navy Midshipmen Betting Preview

The Midshipmen got off to a rough start this year, but they’ve been better since mid-January. Navy was only able to win three of their first 13 games, taking out Harvard, Washington College MD and Penn in that time. After losses to Elon, Maine, NJIT, Virginia Tech, Coppin State and William & Mary, the Midshipmen beat American U and Lafayette. Losses to Loyola MD, Holy Cross, Colgate and Bucknell came next, then wins over Boston U, Army and Lehigh. Since then Navy is 5-4 with losses to Bucknell, Boston U, Colgate and Lafayette. The wins otherwise have come versus Lehigh, Army, Holy Cross, American U and Loyola MD. That gives the Midshipmen a 13-18 overall record through 31 games this year so far.

In the Loyola MD matchup over the weekend, Navy came out of the locker room with a 39-35 deficit. The Midshipmen woke up from there on a 46-29 run and took the comeback victory in the end 81-68. Austin Benigni led the charge on 24 points with five assists and two steals. Jordan Pennick added 18 points with two rebounds and two assists, while Donovan Draper put up 14 rebounds, two assists, four steals and nine points. Aidan Kehoe topped the team off the bench on 10 options with six boards and two steals in 23 minutes of work.

Boston University Terriers Betting Preview

Over on the Boston side, they’ve had a choppy run this year but recently have ben able to claw their way back above the .500 mark. The Terriers were 6-7 through their first 13 outings, losing to Northeastern, San Diego, UCLA, Wagner, Sacred Heart, Merrimack and UMass Lowell along the way. A 6-5 run came next with wins over Army, American U, Lehigh, Bucknell, Holy Cross and Navy among losses to Lafayette, Colgate, Army, Navy and Loyola MD. Since then it’s been a 4-3 stretch with wins over Colgate, Loyola MD, Lehigh and Lafayette among losses to Holy Cross, Bucknell and American U. That gives the Terriers a 16-15 overall run across 31 games.

In the Lafayette home matchup on Saturday, the Terriers were up by two points at the break. Boston U managed to hit a 35-35 run the rest of the way and took the eventual win 66-64 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Miles Brewster with 14 points, four assists, three steals and two rebounds. Kyrone Alexander added 12 points with three rebounds and two assists, while Nico Nobili had 11 rebounds with six points in 30 minutes. Ben Defty led the bench scoring on 11 points with seven boards and two assists in 22 minutes of action.

Boston Univ. vs Navy Prediction

I’ll lean toward Boston. The Terriers eked out a tight win over a persistent Lafayette squad in their last game, hitting 46.3 percent from the field with 14 team assists and just nine turnovers. Boston U did get out-rebounded 33-28 and gave up 46 percent shooting on the other side, but the 14 points off 13 Leopards turnovers helped turn the tide. That gives the Terriers four wins in the last five games with 68 or more points in three of those victories.

These teams split the season series, with the home team getting one each. Navy won 62-47 on January 22, and Boston returned the favor 87-65 on February 5. In that last meeting at Case Gym, the Terriers shot a scorching 59.6 percent from the field and 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from 3-point range. We probably won’t get such a hot shooting performance out of Boston this time, but I think they’re still mostly in control.
