Lehigh Mountain Hawks

The Mountain Hawks didn’t play all that well to start the year, hitting a 7-15 run over their first 22 games. Lehigh is better since then on a 6-2 stretch, though. The Mountain Hawks beat Lafayette three times in that run, along with Bucknell, Loyola MD and Army.

In their tournament matchup versus Lafayette on Thursday, the Mountain Hawks got off to a nice start with a 40-26 run in the first half. Lehigh kept it rolling with a 36-35 run the rest of the way for a 76-61 victory. Burke Chebuhar was the leading team scorer on 22 points with seven boards.

Boston University Terriers

Over on the Terriers’ side, they were sitting at 10-16 in mid-February following a choppy 3-6 run across their previous nine outings. Boston U has rallied since then with wins over Navy, American, Loyola MD, Lehigh, Holy Cross and Navy again during the last six games, though.

On Thursday versus Navy, the Terriers came out of the break with a 33-27 edge. Boston U kept it up with a 37-34 run in the second half on the way to a win 70-61. Anthony Morales was the team’s top scorer in the victory, bagging 17 points and six rebounds off the bench.

I’ll stick with Boston U here. The Terriers weren’t especially dominant on offense in their latest win over Navy, hitting 41 percent from the field and 29.2 percent from 3-point range. Boston hit a nice 13-of-15 from the line however, and held the Midshipmen to 36.1 percent shooting in a quality defensive effort. During this win streak, the Terriers have notched 70 or more points in four of six games.

We’ve had a pair of close matchups between these teams this year, with Boston winning both. First was a 72-71 home victory, then a 64-62 overtime road win on February 28. The Terriers coughed up 16 turnovers and shot just 28.6 percent from 3-point range in that one, but otherwise played pretty well. I like this third outing to be close also, with Boston U eking out an eventual cover/win. Should be a fun tournament matchup to watch.
