The Colgate Raiders and Buffalo Bulls meet Monday in college basketball action at the Alumni Arena. The Colgate Raiders are coming off a 23-win season, their third-highest win total. The Buffalo Bulls are coming off a 19-win season.
The Colgate Raiders enter the 12th season under coach Matt Langel. Tucker Richardson returns after averaging 12.7 points and 5.7 rebounds, while Keegan Records averaged 9.9 points and 1.4 assists. Alex Capitano played 9 minutes last season and Ryan Moffatt averaged 4.8 rebounds. The Colgate Raiders did lose their top player in Nelly Cummings and a double-digit scorer in Jack Ferguson, but the majority of the other key players are back for another year. There will be some adjusting and maybe a minor step back, but Colgate should still be considered a factor in the Patriot League this season.
The Buffalo Bulls enter the fourth season under coach Jim Whitesell. LaQuill Hardnett returns after averaging 2.7 points and 3.3 rebounds, while Curtis Jones averaged 2.5 points and 1.3 assists. Kidtrell Blocker played 46 minutes last season and Kuluel Mading played 29 minutes last season. The Buffalo Bulls say goodbye to their top-7 scorers from last season, including one of the best players in the MAC in Josh Mballa. Yeah, there are serious questions with Buffalo given so much roster turnover. Buffalo did land several transfers, including Kanye Jones from Boston College, Isaiah Adams from UCF and Jonnivius Smith from Seton Hall.
The Raiders are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Bulls are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games and 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The under is 15-5-1 in Raiders last 21 Monday games. The under is 4-1 in Bulls last 5 overall.
The Colgate Raiders are the far more experienced and trustworthy team given the returning production, and they’ll be a contender in the Patriot. The Buffalo Bulls lost their top-7 scorers from a year ago, which leaves major question marks heading into this spot. At home or not, I can’t back Buffalo with so many new faces. I’ll lay the bucket with Colgate on the road.
