The Northern Illinois Huskies and the Buffalo Bulls meet Saturday in college basketball action from UB Alumni Arena. This will be a rematch of Thursday’s game featuring these same teams. Northern Illinois hasn’t had a ton of luck this year; they’ve only been able to win consecutive outings twice so far. The Huskies managed a couple of recent wins over Ball State and Akron, then lost their next two to Miami OH and Eastern Michigan.
On Thursday versus Buffalo, Northern Illinois scored 32 points in the first half and 36 more in the second but couldn’t keep up in a 79-68 loss. Tops in scoring was Keshawn Williams with 21 points and five boards. Adong Makuoi added 12 points as well.
Over on the Buffalo side, they hit a 6-6 run through their first dozen outings but have only lost twice since January 1. The Bulls hit a win streak in February, taking out Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan (twice), Ball State, Bowling Green, Western Michigan and Miami OH.
In the NIU matchup on Thursday, the Bulls were up 37-32 by halftime. Buffalo kept it going with a 42-36 second half for the 79-68 victory. Jeenathan Williams led the way with 28 points and five boards. Ronaldo Segu added 19 points with six assists.
The Bulls are 1-4 ATS in the last five Saturday games and the under is 5-2 in their last seven after an ATS loss. The over is 10-4 in Buffalo’s last 14 versus a team with a straight-up record.
Meanwhile, the Huskies are 9-23-1 ATS in their last 33 Saturday games and 5-1 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss. NIU is 5-0 ATS in their last five overall.
PICK: I’m probably going to take a stab on Buffalo again. The Bulls are scoring well during this eight-game winning streak. They’ve hit 74 or more in each outing and 80 or more in six of them. Buffalo shot well in Thursday’s game (47.5 percent) and won there rebounding battle 45-33 in a good overall effort. I like the Bulls to post another strong outing here and get into a cover at home.
