The Seton Hall Pirates and the Butler Bulldogs meet Sunday in college basketball action from Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Here’s a Butler vs Seton Hall prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Butler vs Seton Hall pick.

Seton Hall Pirates Betting Preview

The Pirates kicked off their season on a nice 14-2 run, losing to only USC and Villanova during that 16-game stretch. Seton Hall would fall to UConn, Butler, St. John’s and DePaul in the next four, then beat Xavier and Marquette. After that came losses to Villanova and Creighton ahead of another win over Providence. In the first 25 games of the year that gives Seton Hall a 17-8 record.

In the Providence matchup back on Wednesday the Pirates entered the second half with a four-point deficit 43-39. Seton Hall got it going in the remainder of the game, logging a 48-37 run on the way to an 87-80 comeback win on their home court. Tops in scoring was Adam Clark with 31 points, eight assists and two rebounds, while AJ Staton-McCray added 18 points.

Butler Bulldogs Betting Preview

Over on the Butler side, they opened up the year with a 10-3 run then fell to Creighton, Villanova, St. John’s and Xavier in succession. After wins over Seton Hall, DePaul and Marquette came losses to St. John’s, Georgetown, Providence, Marquette and UConn. Butler is currently sitting with a 13-12 record in the books following their first 25 games of the season.

Matched up against UConn in their Wednesday game the Bulldogs were in the locker room looking up at a three-point deficit on the scoreboard 41-38. Butler was outscored 39-32 the rest of the way, so they didn’t get any closer in an eventual loss 80-70 on their home court. Tops in scoring during the losing effort was Drayton Jones with 15 points, three rebounds and one assist in 22 minutes of work.

Why the Butler Bulldogs will win

  • The home team has won each of Seton Hall’s last seven games.
  • Seton Hall has lost each of its last four road games.
  • Seton Hall has lost the first half in each of its last eight Sunday road games against Conference opponents.

Why the Seton Hall Pirates will win

  • Butler has lost each of its last five games.
  • Seton Hall has won five of its last six games at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
  • Butler has lost the first half in four of its last five games.

Butler vs Seton Hall Prediction

I’ll lean toward Seton Hall here. The Pirates started rather slowly in their home win over Providence, but everything worked out in the end thanks to 50.8 percent shooting and 76 percent (19-of-25) from the line alongside just five turnovers and a 36-20 advantage in the paint. It wasn’t perfect though, as Seton Hall gave up 49 percent shooting on defense and had a 32-25 deficit on the boards. The Pirates had lost consecutive games (both on the road) prior to that, scoring below 69 points in each of those.

These teams last met up back on January 17 in a rather surprising 77-66 home loss for the Pirates. In that one, Seton Hall shot poorly, with 35.9 percent from the field and 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from 3-point range, and had 13 turnovers. Otherwise, the Pirates had most of the statistical advantages: a 43-24 rebounding edge, for example. Seton Hall needs to get it together on offense for this road rematch and focus on high-percentage shots. I like the Pirates to get a little revenge, but it’ll be a fun matchup regardless.
