The Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Butler Bulldogs meet Thursday in college basketball action from Hinkle Fieldhouse. Texas Tech took a big win over Michigan in their last outing, improving the Raiders to 5-1 overall. As for Butler, they’re 5-2 on the season following a win over Boise State on Sunday. Let’s get into our Texas Tech vs Butler prediction.
Texas Tech Red Raiders
The Raiders opened up the year with a nice three-game win streak, taking out Texas A&M-Commerce, San Jose State and Texas A&M-CC. Texas Tech took their first loss of the year to Villanova 85-69, then eked out a win over Northern Iowa in game five. In the win over the Panthers, the Raiders shot just 39.3 percent from the field but hit 16 of 19 from the line (84.2 percent).
In their latest matchup versus Michigan, the Raiders jumped out to a dominant 35-21 halftime lead. Texas Tech cruised from there in a 73-57 blowout win. Both Devan Cambridge and Joe Toussaint led the team on 17 points with 11 combined rebounds. Darrion Williams added 13 points with 10 boards for a double-double
Over on the Bulldogs’ side, they opened up the year with a three-game win streak as well, taking out Eastern Michigan, Southeast Missouri State, and East Tennessee State. Butler then took losses to Michigan State and Florida Atlantic but bounced back with a 10-point win over Penn State. The Bulldogs hit 50 percent of their shots in that win.
The Bulldogs kept it up with a victory versus Boise State in their last outing. Butler scored 35 points in each half on the way to a 70-56 result. Leading team scorer Pierre Brooks posted 25 points with four rebounds, and Jahmyl Telfort added 11 points with four rebounds and five assists.
BUTLER VS TEXAS TECH PREDICTION
I’ll probably stay with Texas Tech. This will be an interesting matchup, though; you could make a good case either way. The Raiders are coming off a pretty dominant showing versus Michigan, hitting 43.1 percent from the field with a 41-30 rebounding advantage. Texas Tech wasn’t great from 3-point range (23.8 percent), but they hit 18 of 21 attempts from the line (85.7 percent). The Raiders are scoring pretty well so far with 69 or more points in five of six games.
As for Butler, they notched 51.8 percent shooting in their latest win over Boise State along with 38 rebounds. We’re probably looking at a high total here, as Butler has 70 or more points in all but one outing. I like this one to be competitive, with Texas Tech eking out a cover/win. It’ll be a fun game.
