The Tarleton State Texans and the California Baptist Lancers meet Saturday in college basketball action from CBU Events Center. Tarleton State is fresh off a Thursday game versus Seattle. In that one the Texans fell by 20 points. As for Cal Baptist, they’re sitting at 11-8 overall following a win versus Grand Canyon last weekend. Tarleton State Texans
Tarleton State lost to Arizona State, Drake, Wichita State, Baylor, UCF, Air Force and Abilene Christian across their first 14 games. The Texans hit a 3-1 run after that with wins over Southern Utah, Chicago State and Abilene Christian.
In the Thursday game versus Seattle, the Texans were within two points at halftime. Tarleton State was drilled 43-25 in the second half however and fell 67-47. Both Freddy Hicks and Lue Williams posted a team-high 14 points each.
California Baptist Lancers
Over on the Cal Baptist side, they lost to Long Beach State, Minnesota, Southern Illinois, Cal Poly, Portland State and Grand Canyon in their first 14 games. The Lancers are 3-2 since then with losses to Seattle and Utah Valley.
Last Saturday versus Grand Canyon, Cal Baptist was up 39-29 by the break. The Lancers were outscored 45-40 from there but still won 79-74. Leading the charge was Riley Battin with 18 points and seven rebounds.

I’ll probably stick with Cal Baptist in this one. It’ll be interesting to see what the Lancers look like after a week off; I think the rest will do the team some good. Cal Baptist beat a pretty good Grand Canyon team their last time out. The Lancers have scored 67 or more points in four straight games, going 3-1 in that time. Another nice offensive effort out of Cal Baptist and they’ll be in good shape cover-wise against Tarleton State on Saturday.
