The Eastern Washington Eagles and the Cal Poly Mustangs meet Monday in college basketball action from Mott Athletic Center. Eastern Washington is 3-6 on the year so far and fresh off a win over Portland Bible. As for Cal Poly, they’re riding a three-game losing streak at 3-7 overall, most recently falling to Weber State. Eastern Washington Eagles 

The Eagles were only able to win one of their first seven games this year in a rough start. Eastern Washington took out Walla Walla back on November 22, but lost to Utah, Ole Miss, Cincinnati, Stanford, Washington State and USC otherwise in that time before a win over Air Force. 

The Eagles were able to win consecutive games for the first time this year with a victory over Portland Bible on Wednesday. In that one Eastern Washington was up 49-16 in the first half and ended up with a 103-34 finish. Tops in scoring was Cedric Coward with 25 points and 10 rebounds.

Cal Poly Mustangs 

Over on the Mustangs’ side, they’ve only been able to win three games so far this season. Those victories have come versus La Verne, St. Thomas-MN and San Jose State (OT). Otherwise, it was losses to Denver, Wyoming, Portland State, Cal Baptist, Idaho and Oregon State in the first nine games. 

Matched up against Weber State back on December 9, the Mustangs were drilled 42-22 in the first half alone. Cal Poly limped to the finish line with 28 more points in a 78-50 blowout loss. Leading the team was Kobe Sanders with 16 points and four rebounds as the only double-digit scorer. 

ANDREW’S FREE EASTERN WASHINGTON VS CAL POLY PREDICTION 

I’ll probably just take Eastern Washington here. Granted, there’s not a lot to get excited about here though. The Eagles’ record so far is pretty ugly, however they’ve also had to face off against some tough teams in the early-going. The good news is that Eastern Washington has hit 70 or more points in seven straight games and should score pretty well here also. 

As for Cal Poly, they’ve been at 66 points or fewer in in six of the last eight outings. I don’t think the Mustangs will be able to keep pace for long if Eastern Washington is scoring reasonably well.
