Long Beach State managed wins over Cal Baptist, St. Katherine, Oakland, Vermont, Idaho, Life Pacific and CSUN in their first 16 games. The Beach are 3-1 since then with wins over Cal Poly, CSU Fullerton and UC San Diego.
Matched up against UC San Diego on Saturday, the Beach lost a 47-41 halftime lead and had to go to overtime. After three extra periods LBSU had a 112-110 victory. Marcus Tsohonis went off for 46 points, four assists and six rebounds in the win.

In the UC Davis game, the Mustangs were up 29-20 at the break. Cal Poly was outscored 45-34 in the second half and took a difficult 65-63 defeat. Both Brantly Stevenson and Alimamy Koroma scored a team-high 14 points each.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll probably stay with Long Beach State. This should be an interesting matchup, though. The Beach are coming off a pretty exhausting 3OT victory, and they’ve now hit 70 or more points in 14 straight games. That includes a January 12 matchup versus Cal Poly, which LBSU won 77-58 after a 36-21 first half. With this one being at Mott Athletic Center, I can see the Mustangs getting closer here. I’ll still lean Long Beach State on the cover.
