The UC San Diego Tritons and the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners meet Friday in college basketball action from Icardo Center.
UC San Diego comes in here at 4-5 so far. The Tritons are 1-2 in their last three and coming off a win over Bethesda. As for Cal State Bakersfield, they’re 12-7 this year. UC San Diego started out their year with a couple of wins over St. Katherine but then lost three straight to UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara. After a split with UC Davis, the Tritons fell to UC Riverside then beat Bethesda in their last game on Sunday.
In the win over Bethesda, UC San Diego’s Gabe Hadley led the team on 23 points with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Bryce Pope added 14 points with five rebounds and 4-of-7 on 3-point shooting.
Over on the Cal State Bakersfield side, they came out of the gate strong at 10-4 with losses to Santa Clara, Arizona, Stanford and Long Beach State. After a 1-3 stretch with losses to UC Riverside, CSU Fullerton and UC Irvine, the Roadrunners beat UC Irvine in the rematch Saturday.
In Saturday’s 62-57 win over UC Irvine, CSU Bakersfield’s Justin McCall put up 15 points with five rebounds and two assists. Shawn Stith chipped in with 12 points, three rebounds and two assists as well.
The Tritons are 1-5 ATS in the last six overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five as an underdog. UC San Diego is 0-4 ATS in their last four versus a team with a winning straight-up record as well.
Meanwhile, the Roadrunners are 6-17-1 ATS in their last 24 home games and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 overall. CSU Bakersfield is 3-1-1 ATS in their last five as a favorite and the under is 8-2 in their last 10 Friday games.
PICK: I’m sticking with CSU Bakersfield here. The Roadrunners posted a couple of dud offensive outings in the UC Irvine games, logging a combined 115 points across that pair. CSUB isn’t normally a high-scoring team but they can put up the points in comparable matchups and do a solid job on defense in general. I think the Roadrunners can control this one.
