The Dartmouth Big Green and the California Golden Bears meet Sunday in college basketball action from Haas Pavilion. Dartmouth is 3-6 this year and coming off a loss to Stanford. As for California, they’re sitting at 6-5 so far. The Bears beat Santa Clara in their last outing. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Dartmouth went 3-1 in their first four games with wins over Georgetown, Lyndon State and Bryant. Since then it’s been five straight losses to Vermont, Florida Gulf Coast, Quinnipiac, Boston U and Stanford in succession, however.
Matched up against Stanford back on Thursday, the Green had a 44-33 edge at halftime. Stanford fought back to force OT, and Dartmouth eventually fell 89-78. Leading scorer Taurus Samuels finished with 22 points and six rebounds in the defeat.
Over on the California side, they went 2-4 over their first six outings this year, falling to UC San Diego, UNLV, Florida and Seton Hall along the way. The Bears are on a 4-1 run since, with wins over Fresno State, Oregon State, Idaho State and Santa Clara.
In the Santa Clara game last weekend, the Bears posted 38 points in the first half and 34 more from there in a 72-60 victory. California’s Andre Kelly led the team with 18 points and eight boards; Jordan Shepherd added 15 points and six assists.
Cal is 19-7 ATS in the last 26 Sunday games and 23-8 ATS in their last 31 at home. The Bears are 5-1 ATS in their last six after a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, the Green are 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine Sunday games and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five overall. The over is 5-0 in Dartmouth’s last five overall.
PICK: I’m probably sticking with California here. The Bears posted a pretty solid overall effort in their last game, shooting 46.8 percent from the field with 44 rebounds and a perfect 10-of-10 from the line. Cal has hit 72 or more points in three of their last four games.
As for Dartmouth, they managed 78 points against Stanford but had been in a sub-70 slump for the five games prior. I don’t think the Green will be able to keep up if California gets going in this one.
