The Texas-Arlington Mavericks and the California Golden Bears meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Haas Pavilion. TX-Arlington is 5-7 overall this year and fresh off a win over San Francisco. As for California, they’re winless through 12 games. The Bears lost to Santa Clara in their last outing. TX-Arlington went 3-3 over their first six games, beating Southwestern TX, Hartin-Simmons and Northern Kentucky. Since then it’s been a 2-4 run with losses to East Carolina, LSU, North Texas and Texas State.

The Mavericks were able to get a win over San Francisco in their last game. TX-Arlington was up 38-27 by halftime and won 68-63 after a second-half deficit. Both Kyron Gibson and Aaron Cash scored 12 points apiece.

Over on the California side, it’s been a futile effort so far. The Bears have lost to UC Davis, Kansas State, UC San Diego, Southern U, Texas State, TCU, Clemson, USC, Arizona, Eastern WA, Butler and Santa Clara in succession.

In the Santa Clara matchup back on Sunday, the Bears were outscored 34-25 in the second half. California kept the pace from there but still lost 71-62. Joel Brown was tops in scoring with 13 points and six assists.

PICK: I’m probably sticking with TX-Arlington here, but not going near it. The Mavericks haven’t been the most consistent team in the world this year, and they haven’t scored more than 68 points in four straight games. TX-Arlington put away a pretty good San Francisco team in their last outing, though. As for California, they’ve got very little spark and are a tough team to watch right now. I imagine the Bears will hang around for most of the game here, with TX-Arlington powering out a late cover.
