This game has been canceled due to COVID. The Prairie View A&M Panthers and the Valparaiso Beacons meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Athletics-Recreation Center. Prairie View is 0-10 so far this year and coming off a loss to Wichita State. As for Valparaiso, they’re 7-6 on the season. The Beacons beat William & Mary in their last outing. Prairie View hasn’t had any luck so far this year. In succession, the Panthers have lost to Saint Mary’s, San Francisco, Michigan, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Grand Canyon, LMU, SD State, Boise State and Wichita State.
In the Wichita State game back on December 22, the Panthers coughed up 57 points in the first half and 45 more from there in a 102-66 loss. Jeremiah Gambrell led the team with 22 points, and both Jawaun Daniels and Jeremiah Kendall put up 10 points apiece.
Over on the Beacons’ side, they lost their first three games before a 5-2 run over Jacksonville State, Tulane, Trinity Christian, Western Michigan and East-West University. Since then it’s been a 2-1 stretch with wins versus Eastern Michigan and William & Mary.
Matched up against William & Mary, the Beacons outscored the Tribe 50-36 in the first half on the way to an 88-66 win. Valparaiso’s Kobe King led the team on 19 points, and Sheldon Edwards added 17 points.
The Beacons are 5-1 ATS in their last six overall and 1-5 ATS in their last six Tuesday games. The under is 21-8 in Valparaiso’s last 29 overall.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven versus a team with a winning straight-up record and the over is 5-0 in their last five overall. The over is 5-0 in Prairie View’s last five road games.
PICK: I’m going with Valparaiso. The Beacons have been decent offensively over their last eight games, posting at least 66 points in each outing. Valparaiso is coming off a big win over a bad team in William & Mary; five Beacons players scored nine points or more in the victory.
As for the Panthers, they’ve had a few good offensive outings this year themselves, but they’ve also given up 83 or more points in each of tier last six games. Valparaiso should have plenty of opportunities to put up points in this one.
