The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles and the Canisius Golden Griffins meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Koessler Athletic Center. Florida Gulf Coast is 10-3 so far this year. The Eagles beat Mercer in their last game. As for Canisius, they’re 3-9 and fresh off a win over Buffalo. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Florida Gulf Coast went 6-2 over their first eight games, beating Florida National, Eckerd, Rhode Island, Western Michigan, SE Louisiana and Fort Wayne. Since then it’s been a 4-1 run with victories versus Dartmouth, Florida A&M, Robert Morris and Mercer.
In the Mercer game on Sunday, the Eagles were down 26-18 at halftime. FGCU went on a 49-29 run from there to power out the 67-55 comeback win. Tavian Dunn-Martin topped the team on 20 points with 12 assists.
Over on the Canisius side, they lost their first four games before picking up a couple of wins over Fredonia and Coppin State. After a five-game losing streak versus Cornell, Fairfield, Monmouth, Northern Kentucky and Youngstown State the Griffins beat Buffalo in their last outing.
Matched up against buffalo on Saturday, the Griffins were outscored 39-28 in the second half but still hung on for the 65-64 nail-biter win. Armon Harried led the way on 20 points with five boards, and Ahamadou Fofana added 16 points.
The Griffins are 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 Wednesday games and 1-5 ATS in their last six at home. Canisius is 1-7 ATS in their last eight overall.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last four overall and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 Wednesday games. The under is 11-3 in FGCU’s last 14 Wednesday games.
PICK: I’m likely going to stick with Florida Gulf Coast. The Eagles had a major scare against Mercer in their last game, but were still able to pull off a double-digit win with a strong second half. FGCU has been scoring fairly well over this four-game win streak, with 67 or more points in each outing.
As for Canisius, they pulled off a great win in their last game. The Griffins’ scoring has dropped off over theist five games, though; they’ve got 68 or fewer points in each of those. I think Canisius will keep up here for a while, but I like FGCU better cover-wise.
