Rider went just 2-4 over their first six games this year, beating only TCNJ and Monmouth. Since then it’s been a 3-2 run for the Broncs with wins over Mount St. Mary’s, Stonehill and Marist during that stretch.
In the Wednesday matchup versus Georgia, Rider was down by seven going into the second half. The Broncs posted 42 points from there but still lost 78-72. Tariq Ingraham led the team on 15 points with seven rebounds.
Over on the Canisius side, they’ve got wins over only St. Bonaventure and Fredonia this year. The losses have come to Youngstown State, Cleveland State, Cornell, Buffalo, Siena, Iona, Toledo, Penn State and FGCU.
In the Florida Gulf Coast game way back on December 21, the Griffins were up 43-42 by the break. Canisius faded in the second half and took the tough loss 84-81. Jordan Henderson led the team on 19 points with four assists.
PICK: I’m probably going with Rider here. The Broncs put up a good effort against a talented Georgia team in their last outing, ultimately shooting 43.5 percent from the field with a 41-35 rebounding advantage. The 4-of-17 (23.5 percent) mark from 3-point range didn’t help, though. As for Canisius, they’re coming off a valiant effort themselves in the Florida Gulf Coast matchup. That said, the Griffins have also been giving up a truckload of points lately (69 or more in seven straight) so Rider should have plenty of scoring opportunities in this one.
