The Dartmouth Big Green and the Central Connecticut Blue Devils meet Friday in college basketball action from Derrick Gymnasium. Dartmouth enters this one at 4-6 overall. The Big Green are coming off a loss to Vermont. As for Central Connecticut, they’re 0-8 this year and took a loss to Holy Cross back on Saturday. Dartmouth lost four of their first five games this year to Fordham, Bryant, Quinnipiac and Incarnate Word. The Big Green hit a 3-1 run after that, falling to Grambling State with wins over UTSA, NVU-Johnson and CSUB otherwise.
In Tuesday’s matchup versus Vermont, the Big Green were down 41-21 by the break. Dartmouth scored 31 points in the second and limped to a 68-52 loss. Demi Adelekun was the top team scorer on 17 points and five boards.
Over on the Central Connecticut side, it’s been a tough, winless year so far. The losses have come to UMass, Quinnipiac, St. John’s, Lafayette, UMBC, Maine, Rutgers, Brown and Holy Cross in succession.
In the Holy Cross matchup, Central Connecticut was down 28-26 at the break. The Blue Devils couldn’t catch up in the second half however and lost 63-57. Kellen Amos led the way on 20 points with five rebounds.
PICK: I’ll probably stick with Dartmouth in this one. The Big Green are fresh off a rough outing versus Vermont. Dartmouth shot a tepid 38.2 percent from the field in that one, and got out-rebounded 34-28. The good news is that the Big Green has put up some nice offensive outings this year and should have a fairly tame opponent here. As for Central Connecticut, they didn’t give up in the Holy Cross game and stayed fairly close the whole way. If Dartmouth is on point in this one however I don’t see the Blue Devils keeping pace.
