The Wagner Seahawks and the Central Connecticut Blue Devils meet Friday in college basketball action from Detrick Gymnasium. Here’s a Central Connecticut vs Wagner prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Central Connecticut vs Wagner pick.

Wagner Betting Preview

Wagner didn’t open up the season too well, but to their credit, the Seahawks have recovered a bit since early November and they’re keeping their proverbial heads above a .500 record so far (barely). Wagner lost three of their first four games, beating only Manor College with losses otherwise versus Rutgers, St. John’s, and Seton Hall. A 5-1 run came after that with a lone loss to Georgetown among wins versus Boston University, Springfield, Coppin State, MD Eastern Shore, and NJIT. Since then, however, the Seahawks have stumbled on a 2-3 stretch. The only wins in that time came versus the overmatched Penn State-Fayette and Penn State Scranton. Otherwise, it was a trio of defeats versus Manhattan, Chicago State, and Fairleigh Dickinson.

Matched up against Fairleigh Dickinson in their latest outing, the Seahawks couldn’t find much offense in the first half and hit the locker room with a 24-21 deficit. Wagner got slightly better from there on a 47-38 deficit in an eventual loss of 71-59. Zae Blake came off the bench to lead the team in scoring on 20 points and two rebounds with two assists and two steals. Zaire Williams added 18 points with two assists, two rebounds, and two steals as well. Zavier Fitch came off the bench for 17 minutes and added nine points with five boards in the loss.

Central Connecticut Blue Devils Betting Preview

Over on the Central Connecticut side, they opened up the year on an ugly run as well. The Blue Devils have been better in their recovery efforts since then, however. Central Connecticut hit a 2-3 stretch out of the gate with wins over only Saint Joseph’s and Vermont State Johnson alongside losses to Providence, Northeastern, and Sacred Heart. Central Connecticut has since powered out a 9-1 run over the last 10 games. The only loss in that time came versus Rhode Island. Otherwise, it’s been a string of wins over Binghamton, UMass Lowell, UMass, Holy Cross, Fairfield, Quinnipiac, Johnson & Wales RI, St. Francis PA, and Mercyhurst for an 11-4 overall record through 15 games thus far.

Back on Sunday versus Mercyhurst, the Blue Devils weren’t looking so good in the first half with a 29-28 deficit. Central Connecticut hit a 34-21 run in the second however, eventually resulting in a 62-50 comeback win. Leading the way with a double-double was Abdul Momoh with 17 points and 10 boards alongside two blocks. Jordan Jones added 12 points with three rebounds, and Max Frazier led the bench scoring six points and three boards.

Why the Central Connecticut Blue Devils will win

  • Central Connecticut has won 12 of its last 13 games at William H. Detrick Gymnasium.
  • Wagner has lost three of its last four night games.
  • Central Connecticut has won the first half in 11 of its last 12 games at William H. Detrick Gymnasium against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Why the Wagner Seahawks will win

  • Wagner has won 11 of its last 13 night games against Central Connecticut.
  • Wagner has won the first half in eight of its last nine night games against the Northeast Conference.

Central Connecticut vs Wagner Prediction

I’ll stay with Central Connecticut in this one. The Blue Devils started out pretty slowly against a struggling Mercyhurst team in their last game, but to their credit, Central CT finished strong and got the win. The Devils shot just 3-of-17 (17.6 percent) from outside but hit 44.8 percent from the field and had a 39-29 rebounding edge. During this current 9-1 run, Central Connecticut has hit 69 or more points in seven of 10 games. The Devils should be able to keep that trend going here as well—provided they play to their capabilities, that is.

As for Wagner, they mustered a dismal 31.4 percent shooting with a 44-36 rebounding deficit in their latest loss to a not-so-great Fairleigh Dickinson squad. That makes just 111 combined points in the last two games for the Seahawks, versus 135 allowed. Central Connecticut should have just about every advantage on paper in this one, so if all goes to plan the Blue Devils shouldn’t have too many issues staying in control.
