The Delaware Blue Hens will travel to TD Arena to take on the Charleston Cougars this Friday afternoon in College Basketball action.

The Delaware Blue Hens lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 9-5 on the season after being defeated by the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, 70-68, this past Wednesday. Delaware struggled defensively against UNC Wilmington and the Seahawks were able to pull off the victory after Jaylen Sims hit a pair of game-winning free-throws with :03 seconds left in regulation. Delaware shot 48.1% from the field & 35.7% from beyond the arc while allowing UNC Wilmington to shoot 41.4% from the field & 50.0% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Blue Hens was Dylan Painter who had 22 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, & 1 block.

On the season, Delaware is averaging 74.9 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field. The Blue Hens are averaging 7.6 three-pointers per game on 34.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Delaware has been led by Dylan Painter (14.6 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.8 apg), Ryan Allen (13.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.6 apg), Jameer Nelson Jr. (13.4 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.4 spg), & Kevin Anderson (11.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.0 spg).

Defensively, Delaware is allowing their opponents to average 69.6 ppg on 42.0% shooting from the field. The Blue Hens have a rebound margin of 1.6 and a turnover margin of -0.4.

The Charleston Cougars improved to 8-4 on the season after defeating the Old Dominion Monarchs, 82-80, on December 22nd. Charleston allowed Old Dominion to fight back from a 76-66 deficit with 6:09 left in regulation to make it a competitive game late, however, the Cougars were able to come away with the victory after Babacar Faye hit the game-winning jumper with :27 seconds left in regulation. Charleston shot 41.9% from the field & 28.0% from beyond the arc while allowing Old Dominion to shoot 41.3% from the field & 38.1% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Cougars was Dimitrius Underwood who had 15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, & 1 steal.

On the season, Charleston is averaging 80.2 ppg on 40.9% shooting from the field. The Cougars are averaging 8.8 three-pointers per game on 34.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Charleston has been led by John Meeks (14.1 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.3 spg), Reyne Smith (13.3 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.2 apg), Brenden Tucker (11.4 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 1.0 spg), & Dimitrius Underwood (10.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.3 apg, 2.1 spg).

Defensively, Charleston is allowing their opponents to average 78.5 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Cougars have a rebound margin of 6.1 and a turnover margin of 0.8.

The Blue Hens are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games and just 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games on the road. The Cougars are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games, however, are just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. CAA opponents.

Delaware has been led by their offense this season and come into this game ranked 119th in scoring offense, 77th in FG%, & 28th in FT%. Charleston is also led by their offense which ranks 36th in scoring offense & 85th in three-pointers made per game, however, the Cougars have struggled defensive and currently rank just 332nd in scoring defense & 302nd in defensive FG%.

Delaware hasn’t had much success against Charleston as of late, however, I think the Blue Hens have the talent to match Charleston in this one and should be able to score against a Charleston defense that has really struggled to slow down opposing offenses this season. Charleston can do damage from beyond the arc, however, this really is good shooting team as the Cougars rank just 302nd in FG% and as I think this is going to be a competitive game late, I think the play here is to take Delaware and the points. Good Luck!
