The Samford Bulldogs and the Chattanooga Mocs meet Wednesday in college basketball action from McKenzie Arena. Samford is 20-9 so far this year. The Bulldogs beat VMI in their last game. As for Chattanooga, they’re sitting at 15-14 overall after a loss to UNC Greensboro on Saturday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Samford Bulldogs

The Bulldogs managed a 14-8 record over their first 22 outings this year. In the last seven, Samford has hit a 6-1 run with wins over Western Carolina, East Tennessee State, Mercer, the Citadel, UNC Greensboro and VMI after a loss to Wofford.

In the VMI matchup on Saturday, the Bulldogs took a 35-26 edge into the second half. The Bulldogs hit a 61-35 run from there and took a blowout win 96-61. Leading the way was Bubba Parham with 19 points and four rebounds.

Chattanooga Mocs

Over on the Chattanooga side, they were able to maintain a .500 clip through 22 games, going 11-11 overall. The Mocs are 4-3 in their last seven with wins over East Tennessee State, the Citadel, Mercer and VMI.

Matched up against UNC Greensboro on Saturday, the Mocs held a 43-31 deficit going into the second half. Chattanooga was outscored 50-45 from there and lost 93-76. Jamal Johnson was the top team scorer with 28 points and one assist.

I’m going to stay with Samford in this one. The Bulldogs are looking good over this six-game win streak. They’ve scored 70 or more points in nine straight games and should be able to post a nice total here as well. That said, Samford will need a better effort than the last time these teams met if they’re going to get to a cover. On January 14 at Pete Hanna Center, the Bulldogs barely eked out a 75-74 win after falling way behind 45-31 at the break. I like Samford to get off to a good start here and post a solid bounce-back road cover, though.
